Thank You for taking a moment to see how you can help a move a foster child from being alone in a strange place to being reunited with loving, caring family members who will give this deserving child the permanent home they need.
Our Goal for 2014
Our goal for 2014 is to reunite 167 foster children with their families. There are 400,000 children in U.S. foster care today. 84,000 of these children are of Hispanic heritage meaning that most of them have at least one adult family member in Mexico. Many of these children have grandparents, brothers and sisters and possibly a birth parent.
State and federal laws require state agencies to look for these relatives when a child enters foster care. Unfortunately, due to recent budget cuts, some agencies have severely cut back on their efforts to find these family members especially when these relatives are in Mexico.
Right now there are fathers, mothers and grandparents in Mexico who have no idea what is happening to their child. The result is that these child spend years in foster care or are given up for adoption.
Why Family Finding Is So Important
The process of looking for family members of a foster child is called family finding. This process is critical because it is the first step to moving a child out of foster care. Once enough relatives have been located and notified, social services works with them to find those who are willing to be involved with the foster child. A permanent home for the child is the ultimate goal.
Without family finding, many children stay in foster care for years bouncing from one place to the other. Once they aged out (become too old to stay in the foster care program), they end up on the streets with little or no support. But you can make a difference right now and help these children.
Foster child's biological mother located in Mexico
Children's Service Society of Wisconsin (CSSW) had a foster child in their care, but after weeks of searching in the U.S., CSSW had been unable to locate any family members. Our company conducted a City Search that resulted in CSSW being put in touch with the birth mother, maternal grandmother and several adult relatives.
"Many thanks for all of your efforts in locating the family of one of our foster children in Wisconsin! It was a pleasure working with your agency."

Why Support Family Finding
You may be aware of the immeasurable benefits that come from providing a foster child with a permanent home. But let's take a moment to talk about the benefits you get from giving because there are many.
You can feel good about yourself. The media constantly talks about how no one cares anymore, but your contribution says that you do care. And believe us, the foster children you help appreciate your caring.
You aren't ready to be a foster parent, but you still want to help foster children. You can be a force for good by supporting our work to move children out of foster care.
You may like supporting activities that save taxpayer dollars. The California Permanency for Youth Project reported that "Over $220,000 a month could be saved if only 37 youth were placed, resulting in millions in annual savings." While the politicians scuffle over what to do, you can make something positive happen right now.
We will let others know you helped. We would be pleased to list you as a donor or supporter (with your authorization, of course). Or you can be a silent, but important donor.
You knew someone in foster care or were a foster parent. If you have been involved with foster children, you know how important it is for them to have at least "emotional permanence" through a relationship with family members.
No matter the reason for you wanting to give, take action and donate now.

Other Ways to Help
Tell your friends and associates. Encourage them to visit this website and to donate. If 1,000 people give $5 each month, that would raise $60,000 for the year. No government bailout. No loans with high fees. Just caring people like you giving a little every month so children can leave foster care to live in a permanent home.
Follow us on Facebook. The more people, the easier it is to get out our message. Get updates on family finding successes.
Ask your company to support our efforts. Hispanic consumers have a purchasing power of more than $1 trillion. If these consumers were a country, U.S. Hispanics would be the 14th largest economy in the world, bigger than Australia and almost as big as Canada.
Smart businesses want to tap this huge market, and they can do so by supporting our work with Hispanic foster children. If your business can't think of ways to promote their gift-giving, have them call us. We'll work with them to come up with marketing ideas. Be sure to remind them that their donations are tax-deductible.
Ask local Hispanic associations to support our work. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, La Raza, and the Latino Business Association are just a few associations that should welcome the chance to help these foster children.
Volunteer to support our work. We always have work for volunteers from doing research to contacting case workers, judges and potential donors.
We don't have all the answers. We are looking for people with ideas about ways to bring in support, whether through cash donations, good press about our work or other ways we have not even considered.
